The passing of former President George H.W. Bush has brought former Vice President Dan Quayle back into the limelight, and he’s been sharing his stories of working under the former president.
Of course, there’s a good chance that the only thing most people know about Quayle is that he once misspelled potato; the mainstream media at the time made sure of that, just like they tried to paint Bush as stupid and out-of-touch with a bogus anecdote that the New York Times repeated even after he’d died.
So it’s no surprise to any Twitchy reader that media bias was a very real thing even when there were only the big three broadcast networks. So if Quayle will go to his grave with nothing in the history books but “potatoe,” why is Congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez getting a pass? (We know, obviously, but it’s still worth asking.)
Dan Quayle misspelled potato one time and he was labeled an idiot for the remainder of his political career.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez gets a different civics question wrong every week and somehow it’s wrong to label her the same way…

People are just attacking her because they fear her bold new ideas, not because she doesn’t know the three branches of government.
@Ocasio2018 is a potato.

And Quayle was set up – the word was misspelled on the card he was given by the teacher. His fault for not questioning it, of course – but AO-C isn’t being fed misinformation, she’s stupid all by herself!
— Boris_Badenoff (@Boris_Badenoff) December 4, 2018
DQ was given a card that misspelled the word, then the NYT misspelled the same word in the article they ran on the incident.
— Jeff Dunn (@jeffreysdunn) December 4, 2018
I seem to remember in the full video of the Dan Quayle incident, he actually questioned the spelling on the sheet the government school teachers provided him that he was supposed to write, and they insisted it was correct. I’m going to have to rewatch that video.

That’s pretty close to spot on.
— Samuel Goerdel (@SamuelGoerdel) December 4, 2018
if you check your history you’ll see Quayle spelled ‘potato’ correctly the teacher that fateful day spelled it incorrectly …..print the legend bury the truth, MSM
— Duke9555 (@duke9555) December 4, 2018
Dan Quayle missed potato by a letter. @Ocasio2018 missed her dollars needed for proposed gov programs by $37 trillion dollars.
— Scott (@MarkovichScott) December 4, 2018
Same thing really
— Yawny games (@ShaquiquiGames) December 4, 2018
Quayle was a long time ago. Our standards have plummeted since then.
— AllieKatSnow (@ImAllieKatSnow) December 4, 2018
And Obama stated we had 57 states and that got swept under the rug. The double standard by the media has been around for decades.

covfefe, am I right

It’s almost as if liberals think we should have a lower standard for women

The soft bigotry of low expectations….

Almost like she’s a Democrat.

What a difference a (D) makes.

It isn’t even a matter of gaffes or making mistakes… some of the things she has said have made me seriously doubt that she knows anything about what she is talking about. I’m glad her win shows that the younger gen can make it in politics, but not at the expense of knowledge.
— Christopher Locke (@chrislocke82) December 4, 2018
Can we agree that the explanation for this is the media hypocrisy?
— Curtis L Reid (@CurtisLReid) December 4, 2018
I think we’re finally starting to realize that it is the NORM and not a ONE-OFF now that these folks have the ability to spout off without handlers.

Speaking of Ocasio-Cortez … Matthew Walther addresses a good question in The Week:
Where all the late-night comedy bits on the totally cool congresswoman-elect who doesn’t know the three branches of government and thinks the Pentagon, like, lost eleventy gazillion dollars https://t.co/ITy000lnEL
— Matthew Walther (@matthewwalther) December 4, 2018
They managed to make people (even CNN correspondents) actually believe Sarah Palin said she could see Russia from her house, even today.
Ain’t gonna happen. The late night “comedy” writers are all liberals they aren’t going to go after one of their own.
And, is “comedy” really the right term for them?
— Red Foreman (@Redwaswise) December 4, 2018
I’ve been saying this for several weeks now, and mostly being called an idiot for it. I’m glad other people are starting to catch on.
