LISTEN: Do you hear ‘Yanny’ or ‘Laurel’ in this maddening clip?

Everyone else is doing this so we might as well, too. Do you hear “Yanny” or “Laurel” in this now viral clip flying around the internets?

What do you hear?! Yanny or Laurel

Twitter is divided, to say the least:

It’s Yanny.

— Stephen King (@StephenKing) May 16, 2018

it’s so clearly laurel. I can’t even figure out how one would hear yanny.

This Laurel v. Yanni thing is making me angry. I hear Laurel unequivocally. #laurel #yanni @foxfriendsfirst

Literally everything at my show just stopped to see if people hear Laurel or Yanny. I hear Laurel.

— Ellen DeGeneres (@TheEllenShow) May 15, 2018

Vox’s unscientific poll of close to 300,000 respondents is leaning toward Laurel 57%-43% at the time of this post:

What do you hear: “Yanny” or “Laurel”?

— Vox (@voxdotcom) May 15, 2018

So far, we haven’t seen any real explanation for why people are hearing totally different things, and as this clip from Mother Jones shows, changing the pitch can change what you hear:

Yanny or Laurel? It’s all about pitch.

Over to you readers: Team Yanny or Team Laurel?
